The half-way socks

I know it's not really tennis but I've often found myself wearing woolly tights from time to time throughout this so-called summer. Truth be told, it takes me a while to get out of them and I usually can't wait to get back into them. There are a few reasons for this, in my defence:

  • I feel the cold, no really I do, terribly!
  • I bruise easily -what can I say, I'm a bit of a peach (yeah right). But this means my legs are often covered in new to semi-old bruises.
  • Many of my favourite dresses/skirts are well above the knee and I'm just one of those old fashioned girls that believes thighs over the age of 35 (at least mine anyway) should really have some covering of modesty.
  • My legs are always very white and often slightly *whisper it* hairy. I don't have the time or money for professional waxing/tanning so they're not exactly Beyonce-like.
  • A strong wind and a glaring sun is no friend to anyone's thighs unless they're a ballerina (yes, I'm talking cellulite here girls, don't be coy).
  • I actually like nice, good quality, woolly tights, so there!

But I think I've found a good half-way house with these lovely Avoca knee-socks I picked up in a boutique in Haworth recently. There were so many lovely colours and patterns to choose from it took me a while to decide. I think they do the job perfectly, without feeling all trussed up and totally wintrified. The mister quite liked the cheeky flash of thigh between skirt and sock too. What do you think?

Outfit: jumper: George at Asda via charity shop, skirt: St. Michael (vintage M&S?), socks: Avoca, welly ankle boots: unbranded via charity shop (must be good though, I bought them in Norfolk!)

  4. Gosh you look cute and cosy - LOVE your entire outfit, not just the socks.
I bruise too and am always cold.
I (whispers) actually had the electric blanket on for two hours last night.
Hubby is a journo and works late shifts in London and never get to come to bed with me (sniff, sob) unless he has a day off so I think it's only fair!!!
Have jumper envy too. Think it would make me boobs look ridiculously big (as if they aren't already).
I have NEVER had a leg wax. Ever. The razor comes out and that's about it!

  7. They're lovely. Oh to have legs as slim as yours though. I haven't got a hope of wearing socks that length. They do absolutely nothing for me except make me look like Mrs Sausage Legs.

  9. Thumbs up for the socks from me - they are very lovely! And the way to go till you are 45, and then there really are no half measures, just tights ;) I bruise easily too, and am always bashing my legs on the pedals of the bike etc. The return to tights is one of my favourite parts of Autumn!
